In 2003 the general public could no longer buy Traditional Creosote. Due to continued demand, Bartoline stepped up and developed a Creosote Substitute. This was a preparation comprising of petroleum distillates and synthetically manufactured substitutes.
- This excellent oil based timber treatment and stain is for outside use.

Birdbrand removed Creosote Substitute from sale as of the 1st February 2009. However Birdbrand has introduced an alternative non-biocidal product Creocote Oil Based Timber Treatment.

Birdbrand Creocote can be applied exactly like its predecessors, and it can be used by the general public as well as trade persons. You can use Rye Oil’s White Spirit to clean any brushes used.
