1. Does the cost of heating oil make it a efficient fuel?

Heating oil is a clean fuel. Most modern clean burning appliances have low CO2 emissions and high efficiency ratings. It is also more versatile than solid fuel and cheaper to run than electricity or LPG once installed (source: OFTEC). 2. What is the difference between Home Heating Oil (Kerosene) and Gas Oil (Red Diesel)?

Kerosene, also known as 28-second oil, Home Heating Oil, RBO…etc is produced after the distillation process of crude oil. Almost all domestic heating systems use Kerosene because it provides a cleaner and more efficient burn.

Gas Oil is also known as 35-second oil and red diesel. It is more commonly used in agriculture and industry.

3. What is the VAT on Home Heating Oil?

Domestic customers buying Home Heating Oil are charged VAT at only 5% for orders of under 2,300 litres. If you are a business and have a delivery of over 2,300ltrs you will be charged 20% VAT.

4. Do you service boilers?

We don’t have our own service engineers but we can supply you with the details of several local OFTEC registered engineers who will be able to service your boiler for you. Just call us on 01797 223374.

5. Do you sell heating oil tanks?

Yes we supply oil tanks. We are the main stockist for Deso and Tuffa oil tanks for the south east. Please contact Our our office to arrange a free quote on oil tanks.

6. What is your minimum heating oil delivery?

The minimum delivery we can make (which is set by trading standards) is 500 litres. However, there are benefits in increasing the volume of your fuel. This includes : a cheaper price overall so you save money, less deliveries to see into your property, fewer tanker road miles is also greener and environmentally friendly.

7. Do I need to be home when you make a delivery?

No you don’t need to be home for delivery. As long as everything is unlocked and the tank is accessible.

8. How can I pay for what I've ordered.

Rye Oil Ltd will accept payment with a debit card or credit card when placing the order. You can also pay by bank transfer before delivery, contact us in the office for those bank details.

9. Are you a truly independent fuel supplier ?

Yes, Rye Oil Ltd is a family run business with only one depot in Rye Harbour. Rye Oil currently employ 13 people and have a fleet of 5 vehicles. We have been operating since 1983 and pride ourselves on being one of very few truly independent oil and lubricants suppliers in the south east.

10. My boiler/Aga/Rayburn has been acting up. Could it be ‘carbonisation’. What can I do?

Rye Oil Ltd have been working with our customers to find a cheap solution to this problem. Together we have come to the conclusion that Exocet heating oil additive is the best way to go. 11. Can you supply oil using a baby tanker.

We get this question a lot in the office. We can supply using a baby tanker though there is a premium surcharge for this service. For anyone concerned all of our vehicles are 4 wheeler’s so nothing in our fleet is overly huge.
