Boiled Linseed Oil. When used as a wood finish, linseed oil dries slowly and shrinks little upon hardening. Linseed oil does not cover the surface as varnish does, but soaks into the (visible and microscopic) pores, leaving a shiny but not glossy surface that shows off the grain of the wood. A linseed oil finish is easily repaired.

Boiled linseed oil is a natural oil blended with driers to improve drying time. A thin coat can dry within 1 day.

It is a beautiful oil to work with and has endless applications including wooden furniture, sports equipment such as cricket bats, musical instruments, terracotta tiles, stone steps and garden furniture.

This oil is suitable for all types of wood (although it states “Not for use on oak” on the container we’ve not heard of any problems from our customers). It is very water resistant.

Linseed Oil is extracted from the flax seed and is very safe to work with. It has a natural warm yellowish tinge which is apparent when applying to wood, and naturally darkens with age. The oil is boiled twice and then driers are added during the cooling process. This makes the product dry quicker once it has been applied.

Boiled Linseed Oil Application:

Linseed Oil is easily applied with a soft cloth such as t-shirt material. Work it into the wood in a circular motion, finishing off in the direction of the wood grain.

If you wanted to treat oak or other hard woods: for best results you should use our Danish Oil 27 also found in our shop.

Rye Oil Ltd buy in bulk and can off to order. We can also supply 205 litreĀ barrels or 1000 litre IBC
