Boiled Linseed Oil
Price range: £32.00 through £619.92
Boiled Linseed Oil. When used as a wood finish, linseed oil dries slowly and shrinks little upon hardening. Linseed oil does not cover the surface as varnish does, but soaks into the pores, leaving a shiny but not glossy surface that shows off the grain of the wood.

Boiled linseed oil blends natural oil with driers to speed up the drying process, and a thin coat usually dries within a day.
It’s a beautiful oil to use and works for countless applications, including wooden furniture, cricket bats, musical instruments, terracotta tiles, stone steps and garden furniture.
You can use this oil on all types of wood. Although the container says “Not for use on oak,” none of our customers have reported any issues.
Manufacturers extract linseed oil from flax seeds, making it very safe to handle. It has a warm, yellowish tint that shows when applied to wood and naturally darkens over time. The process involves boiling the oil twice and adding driers as it cools, which helps it dry more quickly once applied

- Boiled Linseed Oil usually dries within 12–24 hours, so you can often apply another coat the next day.
- BLO penetrates deeply into the wood fibres, sealing and protecting the material from within.
- It creates a tough, durable finish that helps guard against water stains, scratches and small impacts.
- Because it moves with the wood as humidity changes, it prevents the finish from cracking.
- It works as an excellent traditional sealer for bare wood, terracotta tiles and porous stone.
- You can also use it on metal to slow oxidation and rust, especially on the non‑moving parts of hand tools.
