Bearing Oil 220

A straight bearing oil formulated from a select blend of solvent refined mineral base oils. Perfect for lubricating the bearings and motions. A general-purpose lubricant under conditions where the ambient temperature is higher to reduce the amount of total lubricant loss. Ideal for heritage steam applications, particularly those that use conventional wick or felt pads to draw oil into the bearings. It also suits miniature steam applications, though in some cases the oil flows too freely for certain miniature setups.

The 220 is a free flowing oil at room temperature but when heated becomes even more free flowing. Ideal for heritage steam applications, particularly those that use conventional wick or felt pads to draw oil into the bearings. It also suits miniature steam applications, though in some cases the oil flows too freely for certain miniature setups. For example where an axle box has no wicks or felts used and may become hot with its proximity to the fire box; in this scenario the oil pots would need re-filling more often than practical, for example every 30 minutes in some user cases.

Applications:

Bearing Oil 220 used by locomotives operating in the UK’s cool climate – for very hot summer running would would advise Bearing Oil 460.

This can be used for bearings, gears, slides, and general railway applications. Good for use in older types of railway rolling stock axle boxes with plain bearings. Additionally, they flow readily through worsted wool fibre or cotton wick lubricators used on traction engines and railway rolling stock.
