Solvent based decking oil:

  • Key features:

Deep penetration into timber, Good water resistance, Enhances colour

  • Pros:

Very durable, good for harsh weather, works well on dry or older decking

  • Cons:

Strong smell, longer drying time, less eco-friendly

 

WATER BASED:

 

Water based decking oil:

  • Key features: 

Oil suspended in water instead of solvent, designed to be environmentally friendlier.

  • Pros:

Quick drying, Low odour, more eco-friendly, Easy clean up

  • Cons:

Doesn’t penetrate as deeply as solvent oil, less water resistant, will need more frequent application.

OIL BASED:

Oil based decking oil:
Primarily made from natural oils like linseed, tung or plant oils.
  • Pros:

Natural look and feel, enhances beautiful grain of wood, eco-friendlier
  • Cons: 

May need more frequent application, can go sticky
