In December of 2018 we had a visit from officers of HMRC to find out information about our sales of TVO – Tractor Vaporising Oil, tax rates, volumes of sales and chemical make up. They informed us in early 2019 that we could no longer sell TVO in its current form. This is because its a mixture of rebated and un-rebated fuels. We enquired about a commercial mixing license but they said this was not something they were able to grant us. HMRC pointed out that for people to use TVO in their tractors they had to have an approved TVO mixing license.
With various emails backwards and forwards to the HMRC we have arrived at a point where we can sell a product that users can turn into TVO by adding petrol.
What we are now selling:
This product is called ‘TVO – Premix’ and is available in 20l cans (containing 17 litres). The TVO – Premix has all the ingredients we used to put in our old TVO except the unleaded petrol. This means all you have to do is buy our product and pour into your fuel tank and add standard unleaded petrol at a mix rate of 7 parts TVO Premix and 1 part petrol (3 litres of petrol to 17l of TVO-Premix). The only restrictions that the HMRC have placed on us selling this product is that you have to have a TVO mixing license, either a personal one or a club license. We would urge as many people to get their clubs and organisations to apply for these licenses as this makes the use of this product perfectly legal, for both on and off road use.
So to conclude, we have a product that our customers can turn into our old TVO by adding unleaded petrol, but we must stress the only people that can purchase this product must have a TVO mixing license and the use of the TVO-Premix has to be in accordance with the rules and regulations of that license.
