Frequently asked Questions About Quenching Oil
What is a quenching oil?
Quench oil serves two primary functions. The first is that it helps with hardening of steel by controlling heat transfer during quenching. The second is that it enhances wetting of steel during quenching. The second is to minimize the formation of undesirable thermal and transformational gradients, these may lead to increased distortion and cracking.
How do you harden steel at home?
Medium carbon steel may become slightly tougher, although it cannot be hardened to the point where it cannot be filed or cut with a hacksaw. You can heat steel until it glows red, before it is then quenched in clean water immediately, it becomes very hard but also brittle. Rye Oil Ltds Quenching oil controls the quench stopping it from becoming brittle.
What is quenching process?
You can use this oil for Quench hardening which is a process in which steel and cast iron alloys are strengthened and hardened. These metals consist of ferrous metals and alloys. This is done by heating the material to a certain temperature, depending on the material.
